Why Las Vegas now
Las Vegas is still the American city that sells a night as a destination: a long, loud street of casino resorts, a sky-size LED orb, and a show calendar that can justify the airfare by itself. You do not have to gamble. You do have to pick a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard and treat the rest as a commute.
The Strip
South Strip (Mandalay / Luxor / Excalibur / New York-New York) for first-timer spectacle and slightly easier walking. Center (Bellagio, CityCenter, Paris, Cosmopolitan, Venetian/Palazzo) if you want fountains, indoor malls, and Sphere nearby. North Strip (Wynn, Encore, Circa is Downtown — don’t mix them). Downtown / Fremont for a tighter street, cheaper rooms, and a different night. Arts District if you want a morning without a casino floor.
The Strip is a long street. “One more property” is often a mile in 105°F. Walk a cluster; rideshare or the monorail for a jump. Cross Las Vegas Blvd at lights — it is a real arterial, not a mall aisle.
Landmark orientation, not a Clark County directory: Mandalay Bay / Luxor (south), New York-New York / Park MGM / Aria / Cosmopolitan / Bellagio / Paris (center), Venetian / Palazzo (Sphere is a short hop east), Wynn / Encore (north Strip). Downtown / Fremont is a different night — tighter street, different price, not “the Strip but cheaper.”
When to go
October–April for walking weather. June–September is furnace-hot; plan indoor days and night walks. Midweek rooms usually undercut Friday–Saturday. Holiday weeks and major fight/residency weekends price like events.
How to get there
LAS (Harry Reid) is the airport. Rideshare or a hotel shuttle beats a rental car if you stay on the Strip. The Strip is a long street — walking “one more resort” is often a mile. Monorail covers a slice of the east side; Downtown is a separate hop.
Promotions (how they actually work)
Vegas “deals” are usually weekday room rates, resort emails, and players-club offers — not a secret code on a blog. Prepaid is cheaper and less flexible. Weekend and residency nights jump. Resort fees sit on top of the headline rate; read them before you celebrate a $49 Tuesday.
Where to look: the resort’s own email list, the players club desk after you check in, and the official visitor site. We do not publish freeplay amounts or “this weekend only” codes. Those rot and become false.

Hot shows
Pick a type first: a residency (one artist, many nights), a circulating tour stop, or a production spectacular that has lived in the same room for years. Buy from the venue box office or the production’s official page. Third-party “best seats” sites are not official.

Sphere
Sphere is the giant LED orb east of the Strip near Sands Avenue — not on the Boulevard itself. People plan whole weekends around a residency or a film. Cheap seats are still inside the machine; the cheap joke is sitting where the wraparound image is less of a punch.
Arrive early. Photos from outside are free; the show is the ticket. Accessibility and bag rules live on the official site. Travel4Site does not sell Sphere tickets.

Eat / stay / move
Budget: midweek off-Strip or Downtown room, $20–40 in machine play as entertainment, a cheap buffet or taco shop, one free fountain/volcano show. Always add the resort fee. Splurge: a Center Strip resort, Sphere or a residency, one serious dinner, and a pool day you actually use.

Strip or Fremont? Strip for the postcard and Sphere. Fremont for a shorter street and a different price. They are not interchangeable.
Do I need to gamble? No. Shows, Sphere, pools, and dinner are a complete trip. Floors are optional theater.
